RYT500® Hour Extended Program

If you are truly inspired by yoga and want to learn about it in depth, this program will fulfill your need. It is inclusive of many styles of hatha yoga and incorporates thorough study of yoga philosophy and technique. The program is designed so working people who have families and/or other commitments can become Teachers of Yoga, and not have leave home for an extended length of time. Students make use of resources and teachers in their area for Practical Work, while completing the required written assignments between meetings.

SOYA RYT500® Hour Extended Program
The RYT500® Program is offered in several locations as an Extended Program. Studies in FORT MCMURRAY extend over 2 years, with full weekend (2 x 8hr days) group meetings on average every month for two years (22 weekends).

In between these meetings, you will work on written assignments covering:
  • The Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • The Upanishads
  • The Bhagavad Gita
  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
  • The Chakras, Kriyas, Koshas and Mudras
  • Meditation, Pranayama, and Professionalism
  • Sanskrit and Kirtan
  • Creating Lesson Plans
  • Specialized Yoga Project

These will give you a thorough understanding of the main paths of yoga; Hatha, Raja, Jnana, Bhakti and Karma yoga.

In addition to these assignments, you will attend several Hatha Yoga classes or workshops with one of our Independent SOYA Faculty. You can enjoy many different styles of Hatha Yoga in this manner.

To deepen your understanding of yoga and its benefits, one of your assignments will be to complete a Specialized Yoga Research Project in a preapproved topic of your choice, such as Yoga for Children, Pregnancy, Athletes, Arthritis, Scoliosis, Multiple Sclerosis, Seniors, etc. This project will be your final "thesis". Research includes understanding the Anatomy and Physiology related to your project, how to teach this specialized group, and organized study with Primary Faculty or Independent SOYA Faculty members who have the skills related to your project.

Upon completion of the RYT500® Hour Extended Program there is a written and a practical exam.

Additional Requirements:
  • If you have not already taken a course in Anatomy and Physiology you will need one. A great course can be found at www.ed2go.com for approximately $150. This will cover the systems of the body in six weeks.
  • Current Certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR.
  • Attendance at 2 x Annual SOYA Retreats at your own expense. These retreats are held in Naramata, BC, usually on the 2nd weekend of June.

Investment:
  • $4023.00 +gst ($4224.15 total)
  • Payable in 6 postdated cheques or email money transfers for September, January and May each year. First payment: $1224.15 with 5 additional payments each for $600.00. Online payments can also be made via paypal with a credit card.

Note that program fees include all Instruction at Teacher Training Meetings, Books, Teacher Training Manual, SOYA Teacher Directory listing, Practical and Written Exams, and GST. This program also includes all additional hours of Hatha Yoga instruction with Primary Faculty or Independent SOYA Faculty.

Program fees do not include, Anatomy & Physiology, First Aid and CPR, or attendance at the 2 required annual SOYA Retreats in Naramata, BC. These costs are additional and paid by you directly to the source of instruction.

RYT300® Hour Extended Upgrade Program
FORT MCMURRAY LOCATION DETAILS

The SOYA RYT300® Hour Upgrade is offered either in an Extended Program at one of our Teacher Training locations, or as an Intensive Retreat. The format varies from location to location, but the content remains the same.

We welcome RYT200® Teachers from other schools into the SOYA RYT300® Hour Upgrade. We only require an understanding of previous studies to ensure all our material is covered by the end of your RYT500® training. Please submit an overview of the training you have completed to date and a copy of your 200 Hour Certificate from the school you trained from. This will help us to determine any additional lessons that you will be required to complete.

The RYT300® Upgrade will continue to deepen your understanding of Yoga as it builds on all of the RYT200® material. For the Upgrade to RYT500®, you will have written assignments and practical work to complete month by month. As well, you need to attend a certain number of hours in Hatha Yoga classes or workshops for Teachers and Teachers in Training, with Independent SOYA Faculty.

SOYA RYT300® Hour Upgrade Extended Program
The RYT300® Program is offered in several locations as an Extended Program. Studies in FORT MCMURRAY are of the extended version and take place over 1½ - 2 years, with full weekend (2 x 8hr days) group meetings on average every month. In most cases you will be joining students who are already in the full RYT500® Hour Program.

Based on the understanding that your previous 200 hour studies covered the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, you will work on written assignments covering:
  • The Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • The Upanishads
  • Deepening Knowledge of Chakras
  • Understanding Koshas, Mudras, and Vayus
  • Asanas at Intermediate level with Modifications
  • Anatomy and Asana
  • Deepening Meditation and Pranayama Techniques
  • Understanding Karma and Reincarnation
  • Sanskrit Writing and Leading Kirtan
  • Creating Intermediate Level Lesson Plans
  • Specialized Yoga Research Project

These will give you a thorough understanding of the main paths of yoga; Hatha, Raja, Jnana, Bhakti and Karma yoga. If you have not previously studied the Bhagavaad Gita or the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, you can make up these assignments on your own time.

The daily sessions include detailed Hatha Yoga instruction and practice in various styles such as Ashtanga, Sivananda, Flow and Yin. Morning and evening meditation, kirtan, and pranayama will deepen your personal practice.

In addition to these assignments, you will attend several Hatha Yoga classes or workshops with one of our Independent SOYA Faculty. You can enjoy many different styles of Hatha Yoga in this manner.

  • Payable in 3 postdated cheques or email money transfers for September, January and May each year. First payment: $1471.30 with 2 additional payments each for $1000.00. Online payments can also be made via paypal with a credit card.
  • Tuition Rate dependent upon previous instruction and studies covered in other RYT200 hour programs. New teacher training students can attend this program and follow with the RYT200® Hour Intensive for full RYT500® Hour Certification. Program will include some of the 142 hours of Hatha Yoga required with Independent SOYA Faculty.

Note that program fees include all Instruction at Teacher Training Meetings, Books, Teacher Training Manual, SOYA Teacher Directory listing, Practical and Written Exams, and GST. This program also includes some or all additional hours of Hatha Yoga instruction with Primary Faculty or Independent SOYA Faculty (based on previous experience noted in your application).

Program fees do not include, Anatomy & Physiology, First Aid and CPR, or attendance at the required annual SOYA Retreat in Naramata, BC. These costs are additional and paid by you directly to the source of instruction.

  • Group meets one 16 hour weekend per month for 1 year (11 weekends) with the requirement of attendance at one SOYA Retreat in Naramata, BC (retreat costs at your own expense).

This program is designed for students wishing to explore the deeper aspects for Yoga. Focusing on the basics of Hatha Yoga and Philosophy, it will culminate in RYT200® Hour Certification that will enable you to teach yoga and explore further with confidence.

SOYA RYT200® Hour Extended Program
The RYT200® Program is offered in several locations as a 2 week Intensive Program. Studies in FORT MCMURRAY however, extend over the period of 1 year with full weekend (2 x 8hr days) group meetings on average every month (11 weekends).

Written assignments will cover:
  • The Bhagavad Gita
  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
  • The Chakras and Meditation
  • The Kriyas and Basic Pranayama
  • Asanas, Benefits, Cautions and Basic Modifications
  • Pranayama
  • Professionalism
  • Sanskrit Pronounciation
  • Creating Beginner Lesson Plans

Group review and discussion will shed light on these written assignments. These philosphy studies will give you a thorough understanding of the main paths of yoga; Hatha, Raja, Jnana, Bhakti and Karma yoga.

In addition to these assignments, you will attend several Hatha Yoga classes or workshops with one of our Independent SOYA Faculty. You can enjoy many different styles of Hatha Yoga in this manner.

You will also learn how to design a series of 6 Yoga Lesson Plans, which is a very detailed assignment covering benefits, precautions and modifications for asanas and pranayama, as well as meditation techniques and visualizations.

Upon completion of the SOYA RYT200® Program there is both a written exam and a practical exam.
