RYT300® Hour Extended Upgrade Program
FORT MCMURRAY LOCATION DETAILS

We welcome RYT200® Teachers from other schools into the SOYA RYT300® Hour Upgrade. We only require an understanding of previous studies to ensure all our material is covered by the end of your RYT500® training. Please submit an overview of the training you have completed to date and a copy of your 200 Hour Certificate from the school you trained from. This will help us to determine any additional lessons that you will be required to complete. The RYT300® Upgrade will continue to deepen your understanding of Yoga as it builds on all of the RYT200® material. For the Upgrade to RYT500®, you will have written assignments and practical work to complete month by month. As well, you need to attend a certain number of hours in Hatha Yoga classes or workshops for Teachers and Teachers in Training, with Independent SOYA Faculty.

SOYA RYT300® Hour Upgrade Extended Program
The RYT300® Program is offered in several locations as an Extended Program. Studies in FORT MCMURRAY extend over 1-2 years and involve an average of one learning weekend per month. Learning weekends are 9-5pm and run both Saturday and Sunday unless otherwise stated.

Based on the understanding that your previous 200 hour studies covered the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, you will work on written assignments covering:
The Hatha Yoga Pradipika
The Upanishads
Deepening Knowledge of Chakras
Understanding Koshas, Mudras, and Vayus
Asanas at Intermediate level with Modifications
Anatomy and Asana
Deepening Meditation and Pranayama Techniques
Understanding Karma and Reincarnation
Sanskrit Writing and Leading Kirtan
Creating Intermediate Level Lesson Plans
Specialized Yoga Research Project

Assignments and in class discussion will give you a thorough understanding of the main paths of yoga; Hatha, Raja, Jnana, Bhakti and Karma yoga. If you have not previously studied the Bhagavaad Gita or the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, you can make up these assignments on your own time. In addition to the assignments and learning weekends you are required to attend several Hatha Yoga classes or workshops with Independent SOYA Faculty. By taking part in class time with a variety of instructors you will be exposed to many different styles of Hatha Yoga.

To deepen your understanding of yoga and its benefits, one of your assignments will be to complete a Specialized Yoga Research Project on a preapproved topic of your choice. Past topics have included Yoga for Children, Pregnancy, Athletes, Arthritis, Scoliosis, Multiple Sclerosis, Seniors, etc. This project will be your final "thesis". Research includes understanding the Anatomy and Physiology related to your project, how to teach to this specialized group, and includes collaboration with a mentor who has skills appropriate to your project.

Upon completion of the RYT500® Hour Extended Program there is a written and a practical exam.
